The art is beautiful and the game play is simple, but rewarding enough to provide several hours of entertainment. Definitely came across to me as a polished product of high quality!. I come from Total War: Three Kingdom.. after finish a campaign.. I'm looking for something light.Wallaaa* i bought this game =)and i play 7h straight after that.. haha (prove i have no life) cough*ahem back to topic.. This is a wonderful RPG game. An awesome spin on the deck-building system. Cool graphics, great design and funny characters with great atmospheric music. I highly recommend this game =). This game is... that weird spin-off every game series have. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game but still far off from the other SteamWorld titles.===============The (basic) gameplay===============The gameplay if fairly simple, on one side you walk around exploring the maps and deal with the several enemy encounters in your way, once you find a group of enemies it becomes a 'turn-based card dealing game' which is pretty self-explanatory but the tutorial insists in interrupting you. Some people don't mind that but it can get a bit annoying. The world map encourages exploration as there's secret rooms to find and a loot meter. The only annoyance is that replaying any map also replays all the story bits related to said map so you'll find yourself hitting the skip button with a sledgehammer after a while to skip the story you've seen about five times already trying to find that one secret room with a chest containing a card you probably never gonna use... ok, rant over. XDIt's really that simple tho, nothing inovative to mention there. I mean there's a few puzzles but the game literally gives you the answer.===============The cards===============The cards... oh the cards, hold on a bit... ................... ...I know is here somewhere, hold on... ...here it is... and I apologize in advance.*INSERT HEART OF THE CARDS JOKE HERE*Walking around the map is just 1/4 of the whole game, this is the rest, card based combat. Did they got it right? Well they did better than that Artifact game thingy so that's an accomplishment. There's a few kinks to it tho...♦ The good ♦You can craft cards, find cards in chests and later in the game you can upgrade your old cards.During combat, normally you can only play 3 cards, if you play 3 cards from the same character you make a chain which grants you a 4th card. Some cards also have "sub-chains" as in if you play a blue card and a green card is played right after that (during the same move) if this green card is linked with a blue card you get bonus effects (don't worry, the game is more clear than me about this). Some cards also allow for extra moves from a different character (like the "prey" card for example, which marks a enemy and every time that enemy takes a hit it allows an assist.)♦ The bad (am I really gonna do this?) ♦The high tier cards aren't worth the amount of cogs you have to spend to use them. By the time you get 5 cogs to try that card out the dude on the opposing team have 10 health aaaaand he just took poison damage and the battle is over... yay *sarcasm*.This game also have those kind of cards that sounds like a good deal however most of them give your characters penalties that are far too great to justify ever equiping those cards (none of the enemies have those kind of cards btw).Deck building is a bit tedious, you can only have 8 cards per character at a time to play with so... if you're like me you'll spend a *fair* amount of time weighting every card trying to build a good deck.♦ The ugly (I'M SORRYYYYY!! *running away from the angry mob*) ♦Some cards deal effects like instant K.O, sleep which disables the enemies for a while and blindness which make the enemies miss... in theory at least. All the cards that are helpful and have effects like that also come with a "doesn't work with bosses" which sounds fine but they also fail to mention that regular enemies can also shrug off those effects easily. For example, at one point I had +6 evade and one blind regular enemy, should be a miss right? Nope, I get hit... repeatedly. Do I even need to comment anything on this? DONTANSWERTHAT!!! >.<===============The rest===============Along the game three different characters will join your party, no this isn't a spoiler, the screenshots in the store page give that away right of the bat.Out of all characters the mage is a must have in your party regardless of what happens. The shield barrier is such a good ability to have you'll find yourself "raising shields" at the first opportunity you get.I don't have too much to comment about the characters and I'll absolutely comment nothing about the story. I myself don't mind spoilers but I respect who do so... either play the game or watch someone else play it if you wanna hear about the story. The sounds... I'll admit, I played this game on almost silent while watching stuff on netflix and youtube so I got nothing to comment on this aspect.===============The conclusion===============Despite a few kinks and some needed rebalance this game isn't bad, I recommend it at a discound if you're a fan of the franchise, if you're new and want to check out the series I think you'll be better off getting SteamWorld Heist. But that's just my opinion anyway.Aaand I went overboard on the review again, sorry. xD. The SteamWorld series continues its remarkable inter-genre winning streak with yet another strong entry - not just a strong turn-based RPG in its own right, but one that brings a number of interesting new ideas to the table. I'm finding the writing somewhat inane, but the lighthearted, comical tone is normal for the series, and given the strength of the gameplay, the fact that I'm occasionally rolling my eyes at the dialogue isn't nearly enough to keep me from recommending this game. The fact that *I* write depressing stories about robots doesn't mean *everyone* needs to, and I'm sure some people will find this game's tone a relief, particularly given the state of the world around us.. Big fan of the SteamWorld games, but I hit a snag in this one. I found what appears to be a really frustrating design choice for anyone coming from similar games such as Slay the Spire, etc - specifically, you can find yourself in a situation where you are down to one character (other's are dead) and you simply cannot do anything. You don't have enough steam to use whatever cards are available to your character (if any), and attempts to re-draw other (dead) characters' cards in your hand over the course of 4-5 turns only results in drawing more of the dead characters' cards. When you are 1 of 3 characters (Galleo in my case) and the only one alive, 16 out of the 24 cards in the deck (those belonging to the dead characters) are unusable to you. That does not include cards that your character CAN use, but doesn't have enough steam points to use (in my case, Galleo's deck - 2x mend (2 steam each), 1x wrecking ball (3 steam), 1x gigaton punch (4 steam)). In other words, every card that requires no steam to use was still in my deck - 2x steam punch, 2x shields up. So that's 20 out of 24 cards in the deck that are unusable.I literally sat there in a boss fight with the boss at ~30% hp, myself at ~90% as the last char alive, re-drawing 2 dead characters' cards per turn, looking for anything to use. I went turn after turn without being able to do anything at all except for once drawing a single steam punch (gave me 1 steam, not enough to use any cards of mine requiring steam as the lowest required 2), until I died. I stopped playing then and there (alt+f4 out of frustration), and was about to initiate a refund request.Instead of immediately refunding, I'll see what happens with this before I play again and cross the 2 hour mark.My suggestion: Either remove dead character's cards from the deck so that it's not constantly full of unusable cards, or perhaps consider a one-time full-hand discard/redraw, instead of only being able to redraw 2 individual cards per turn. Will change to recommend if this is addressed.. I seldom buy games at their release, but games by Image & form are an exception. This i totally different from their earlier titles in terms of game mechanic, being a card driven JRPG. But I think they pulled this one off aswell, and I am confident to say that most people that are into this genre will like this game.I believe I am half-way into the game, and I really enjoy it so far! But there are cons for sure. This is my personal short pros and cons:Pros:- Very enjoyable fights and rpg-elements- Great in-fight interface- Addictive and rewarding gameplay- Good music- Nice gfx overall- Runs on low specs- Relaxing and lightCons:- Mediocre story, even though it is funny from time to time, it doesn't leave an impression at all - Semi-boring world (I like all other steamworld atmospheres for sure, but this one is kind of bland)- Quite bad controls while moving the character outside of fightsAll in all a great game when you just want to play relaxing, fun and rewarding game.Just about 8/10. This game is great, if you like RPG's and you like card games you're gonna love this. Plus the writing is actually compelling! Imagine that!. Image & Form Games did it again. the game is a Diamond...i love it since it released for nintendo and i waited for it to release on pc too. Graphics are colorful and cute, music is what it must be for the game, characters are awesome and very artistic as the other games. i turned on my pc and bough it without second though. 10/10 for me. Draw & Win SteamWorld Quest for Steam!: Howdy, everyone!
